Cherry Chocolate Chunkers
1 jar (10 ounces) marachino cherries
1 bag (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
1/2 cup butter or regular margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 eggs, beaten
1 bag (11.5 or 12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chunks (2 cups)
Cherry Drizzle (recipe follows)
Heat oven to 350 F. Drain cherries well. Reserve liquid for Cherry
Drizzle. Cut the cherries in half. Set aside. Melt chocolate chips and
butter in a 3 quart saucepan over low heat; stirring constantly. Remove
from heat. Stir in sugar, flour, vanilla, baking powder, salt, and
eggs. Stir in cherries and the chocolate chunks. Spread the dough in
an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Bake for 32 to 37 minutes or
until the center is set. Cool completely, about one hour. Place Cherry
Drizzle in a resealable plastic food-storage bag. Cut off tip of bag.
Squeeze drizzle in desired patter on top of cooled brownies. For
brownies, cut 6 rows by 4 rows.
Yield: 24 brownies
Cherry Drizzle
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3 to 5 tsp reserved marachino cherry liquid
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl with spoon until smooth.
